Solstice Eve

The sun is missing this Solstice Eve.
My friend and I and Kodi climb Mt. Agamenticus,
we walk on bare, frozen ground,
past gray rocks and gray trees.
Kodi finds only gray squirrels to entertain him.
At the summit we look Downeast,
into the vast gray ocean beyond.
The sky is gray all day.
A cold, biting wind blows.
Snowflakes begin to fall one by one, then faster.
The white snow brightens the day,
just as afternoon fades into twilight.
